RE: North Fork Elementary Board Report

1) School Improvement Plan

  • This month, we had a ReadyMath Trainer come in and go over some new features of the program, address some of our concerns, and revisit important practices. This trainer will be returning in February to follow up with more training. The feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive. We needed a refresher of practices for current and new staff. The program has also added some tools to help assist with differentiation.
  • October 31st is a professional development day focused on math and also social-emotional skills. Our teachers will be participating in some team-building activities which will strengthen relationships in their classrooms and with staff.

2)  Recognition

  • Our Walk A Thon fundraiser was a success. Our PTSA runs this event with many volunteers and support for our students. From encouraging signs and a water and snack station to managing all of the incoming funds, they take care of all the details. They are an amazing team of volunteers, and we couldn’t have done it without them. Our students raised just over $10,000 which is divided into teacher, grade level, and building grants that directly impact students. An example of this is our 3rd-grade team buys every student a rocket to make and launch in the spring.
  • Mrs. Aschoff met with our volunteers who have signed up for Lunch Buddies. This program was previously run by Mentors for Success, but they lost their grant funding and will not be running it again. This program helps our students, who benefit from having another positive adult relationship in their lives, which impacts their relationships and success at school. We are looking for more Lunch Buddies if you know someone who is interested.

3) Upcoming Events

  • Our Multilingual teacher and director, Shelley Thomas, has completed all of the scheduling for our ML families for conferences. Scheduling translators is a huge task for all of our schools. All North Fork families will participate in conferences in November.
  • Our Kindergarten students are visiting The Patch tomorrow. They will get to pick out a pumpkin and participate in the corn maze.
