Proposed Resolution on Support for Citizens' Personal Decisions Regarding Health

Director Huddleston has offered a proposed resolution regarding individual rights (masking, vaccinations, etc.).

The purpose of this discussion is to determine the board's interest in moving forward with consideration of this or a topically similar resolution and determine how the board wishes to proceed (adopt as presented, work through the language as a whole team, appoint a subcommittee to draft a revised resolution, etc.).

Resolution to Support Citizens’ Personal Decisions Regarding Health

WHEREAS, there are discussions among political entities about reinstating mask mandates; and

WHEREAS, the people of the Woodland School District No. 404 have a Constitutional right to make their own healthcare decisions; and

WHEREAS, the Woodland School District No. 404 directors, elected by the people of the Woodland School District No. 404, are committed to uphold their sworn oath to defend the inalienable rights of the people they serve, guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States and the State of Washington, as affirmed before entering their duties in office; and

WHEREAS, the mask, test, vaccine/injection, medical treatment limitations, and social restriction mandates in 2021 and 2022 have had a devastating, far-reaching, and long-lasting impact on virtually every aspect of the people’s lives and livelihoods, including the health and well-being of children; and

WHEREAS, the Woodland School District No. 404 Board of Directors has the discretionary authority to set policy for the school district, just as the Governor has for the State offices; and

WHEREAS, WSSDA makes policy standard recommendations for all of the school districts of Washington State and each district has discretionary power to tailor the policies to their own district’s needs; Now

THEREFORE; be it resolved, that Woodland School District No. 404 Board of Directors opposes any attempt by our Federal, State, and/or Local governments to reinstate mandates regarding citizens’ personal health decisions, including, but not limited to, those pertaining to masking, testing, vaccinating, and social restrictions.

Effective Date This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
