Emergency Planning
Over the next month I will be working with each school to go over emergency planning measures. This exercise will be driven from the new Woodland School District Emergency Preparedness Procedure (in draft). This procedure is approximately 90% complete. The essence of the program is to have a lead document at the district level identifying the various types of emergencies and outlining the roles of staff during those emergencies. The goal is to have one lead document and five identical emergency response plans for each campus. The program will identify and measure the probability, magnitude time and duration for each emergency. From that a risk assessment (low medium, high) can be made. This will drive procedural needs, and define program content.
Accidents
We continue to have many accidents at the schools. In order to shore up the safety program we have started a spreadsheet to track the accidents around the district in greater detail. The spreadsheet is arranged so data can be filtered by school, type of injury student vs. staff etc. Once we have the data analyzed we can start putting programs, policies and engineering controls in place to mitigate and reduce accidents. Future facility reports will have safety performance chart data imbedded in the report to help visualize our progress.
OSHA Training
The city of Woodland was handed a hefty fine last quarter for violations to OSHA standards. With that, this month and next month’s training for custodial Maintenance and Grounds will be a review of all OSHA required training. This training will include the following topics.
Some of these topics are required to be trained on annually. One of my departments key focus points for 2016 is to hone school and occupational safety programs. We are clearly moving in a good direction and the teams at the schools are eager to further improve student and occupational safety.
