SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Green said that he was on vacation last week, but has been working on capital projects. The new High School project is still on schedule, but there are ongoing problems with Rammed Aggregate Pier Equipment.  One of the fuel tanks that needed to be removed up at the Yale project had significant leakage.  Soil cleanup work continues, but demolition of the gym has begun. Little monitoring wells have been discovered on the property and more investigation is needed regarding these.

CORRESPONDENCE

Michael said that he had received a letter from the Washington State Patrol commending KWRL for another outstanding safety report on buses.

Janice Watts asked when the next WQCC meeting will be held. Michael told the Board that this will be Wednesday, July 17th at 6pm in the Community Center. The topic will be about Columbia River Carbonate’s proposal for a barge port.

BOARD REPORTS & REQUESTS

Bill Woodard said that he went by the Henrietta Lacks Health Bioscience High School in Vancouver and was really impressed.  He said it’s like a Skills Center for students looking for a medical career.

Food Service Contract
The Board discussed the food service contract with Stacy Brown. Jim said there’s no secret that he hasn’t been a fan of food service management companies. He said he knows it isn’t popular with some kitchen staff.  He would like to see the data and think about alternatives after this year. Michael said that everyone’s numbers are down and federal mandates make the program less appealing to kids.  Janice said that some of the mandates are stupid, but we must still meet the guidelines if we had our own program.  Stacy said that having the Sodexo manage the program gives her peace of mind that guidelines are being met. She doesn’t know what other options are available.  Jim said after Stacy gets the final numbers this year, he’d like to talk about this again.

Bill Woodard moved to approve the food service contract with Sodexo.
