Opening Doors: Woodland High School Wins 2026 OnPoint Community Builder Award

For many high school students, the question of "what comes next?" can be as daunting as it is exciting. For first-generation students or those facing financial hurdles, the path to postsecondary education often feels more like a maze than a highway.

Woodland High School is determined to change that narrative.

Today, the school is proud to announce it has been named one of only five recipients of the 2026 OnPoint Community Builder Award. This prestigious recognition comes with a grant intended to fund a transformative new initiative: a comprehensive series of guided visits to trade schools, community colleges, and universities.

Breaking Barriers to Higher Education

The project focuses on removing the logistical and financial barriers that often prevent students from exploring their options in person. By providing transportation and guided tours, Woodland High School aims to boost the confidence and interest of its student body—particularly those who would be the first in their families to attend college.

A Community Effort on a Grand Stage

The Community Builder award is designed to shine a light on the vital work happening within the schools OnPoint Credit Union serves. As a winner, Woodland High School’s project will be celebrated across several platforms this spring:

  • Television: A 30-second spot airing on KGW in late May will showcase the winners to viewers across the region.
  • Digital Presence: The project will be featured prominently on the OnPoint Prize website and across social media platforms.
  • Public Recognition: A regional press release will highlight the impact Woodland is making on the next generation of professionals and leaders.

Building the Future, One Trip at a Time

This award ensures that "postsecondary exploration" is more than just a phrase in a handbook; it becomes a tangible reality. Whether a student is interested in a specialized trade, a two-year associate degree, or a four-year university program, Woodland High School is now better equipped to help them find their fit.

As the school prepares to launch these visits, the message to the students is clear: The world is open to you, and we’re going to help you get there.
