Seeking Little Leaders: Join Our Peer Model Program for 2026-2027!

Are you looking for a preschool experience that fosters leadership, kindness, and early academic growth? Columbia Elementary is officially seeking enthusiastic, social, and curious children to join our Early Interventions Preschool Program as Behavioral Peer Models for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year!

What is a Peer Model?

In our inclusive classroom, Peer Models play a vital role. These are children who demonstrate age-appropriate social, emotional, and communication skills. By simply being themselves—playing, sharing, and participating—they provide a "blueprint" for success for their classmates who are working hard to develop these same skills.

It is a unique opportunity for your child to grow as a natural leader while benefiting from a high-quality, teacher-led preschool environment.

What We Focus On

Our program bridges the gap between social play and school readiness. Your child will engage in a curriculum designed to spark curiosity and build a strong foundation for Kindergarten:

  • Friendship & Social Skills: Learning the "art of the start"—how to initiate play, share toys, and practice empathy.
  • Appropriate Peer Interaction: Navigating group dynamics, taking turns, and following classroom routines.
  • Pre-Academic Foundations: A fun, hands-on introduction to the "Big Four":
  • Letters: Recognizing sounds and shapes.
  • Numbers: Counting and basic quantity.
  • Shapes: Identifying the geometry in the world around us.
  • Colors: Exploring the vibrant palette of early art and science.

Why Join Us?

Being a Peer Model isn't just about helping others; it’s about giving your child a head start. Research shows that children in inclusive settings develop stronger social-emotional intelligence and a more diverse perspective on learning. If your child:

  • Adjusts their behavior to different settings
  • Participates easily in routine activities
  • Cooperates and takes turns with peers
  • Waits for turns without frustration
  • Solves problems with peers with adult guidance
  • Shows care for other children when they are upset
  • Dresses and undresses with minimal help
  • Independently uses the toilet and washes their hands

They could be a behavioural peer model in our preschool program.
