New Superintendent Selected for Woodland Public Schools

The Woodland Public Schools Board of Directors announced the selection of Asha Riley as the district’s new superintendent, effective June 30, 2024. This decision, made at a Special Board Meeting, marks a significant milestone in the district's leadership as Ms. Riley prepares to take over from retiring Superintendent Michael Green, who has served the district for 17 years.

Board President Jeff Wray expressed the Board’s confidence in Ms. Riley, stating, “Asha's profound understanding of our district's challenges and opportunities, coupled with her strong commitment to academic excellence and community engagement, make her the ideal leader for Woodland Public Schools as we move forward.”

Asha Riley, currently serving as the assistant superintendent at Woodland Public Schools, has been a key figure in the district since 2014. Her contributions include leading the district through growth-related school reconfigurations, orchestrating successful bond and levy campaigns, and introducing initiatives that have significantly enhanced student academic growth.

Her extensive experience in education includes roles such as director of Teaching and Learning at Woodland, principal at Lewis River Academy and Yale Elementary, and professional development administrator at Evergreen Public Schools. Riley holds a Superintendent Credential, two Master's Degrees in Educational Leadership and Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

Beyond her professional roles, Ms. Riley has been an active member of the community, including serving as President of the Rotary Club of Woodland and participating in various educational associations.

Upon her appointment, Ms. Riley shared, “I am both humbled and excited to lead Woodland Public Schools. Our district is renowned for its dedicated staff and commitment to student success. I look forward to building on this foundation and leading our schools towards a future filled with opportunity and achievement for all our students.”

The selection of Ms. Riley comes at a crucial juncture for the district, which is facing budgetary challenges. The Board's decision to select an internal candidate reflects a strategic approach to leadership continuity and Ms. Riley's established record of effective district management.
