Re:          September Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

School Improvement Planning: Our staff worked together 2 days before school started and again on Monday, October 4th to review school goals and our school improvement plan.  We did not meet our goals in any of our goal areas, but were very close in Science, Writing and Reading. Right now, we have 33 students with 2 or more F's, which is exactly the same number of students we had last year.  These are students that we are actively tracking every week through our Opportunity Time support team. We continue to have strong support from staff, and students, for the use of opportunity time.

Monday's: We used the three Monday's in September for staff to refocus their energies in group norms and power standards and to meet with the rest of the district staff for a presentation by Michael and Asha. The focus of our collaboration time is to make sure we can clearly identify and properly assess the key learning standards in everyone of our classes and this was all developed in collaboration with teachers who are teaching similar classes.

Other information: We believe we had an excellent start to the school year and the climate of the school "feels" right according to numerous students. We are excited about the changes to the gym which was organized by our new athletic director, Mr. Huddleston, as well as the increased number of athletes in our cross country program. Our math team is doing an excellent job of using the new curriculum for Integrated I and II which is being developed in collaboration with the Evergreen and Washougal school districts.
