Teacher teaching reading

We're thrilled to announce a significant achievement in early literacy for our school district! In a recent assessment at the start of the school year, 69% of all 3rd and 4th graders were found to be reading at or above their grade level. This is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff.

Principal Denise Pearl attributes this success to a research-backed approach to reading instruction. "We've focused on building the foundational skills of literacy," she says. "By investing in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training for our educators, we've strengthened our ability to teach students the crucial link between sounds and letters." This targeted approach, often referred to as the science of reading, is based on how the brain learns to read, emphasizing skills like phonics.

The positive results are especially evident in our 3rd-grade classrooms, where a remarkable 40% of students scored above their current grade level. This early success is a strong indicator that our targeted strategies are setting our students up for a future of reading proficiency and academic excellence.

We're incredibly proud of our students and the dedicated teachers and support staff who are helping them build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
