WHS Spring Athletic Programs Prove GRIT Leads to Academic Excellence

Track and Field Team

At Woodland High School, being a Beaver athlete means striving for excellence both on the field of play and in the classroom. This commitment was recently put on full display as five WHS Spring 2026 athletic teams earned prestigious Scholastic Awards from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Golf Team Picture

The WIAA distributes scholastic awards to varsity teams across the state that achieve a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Representing roughly 85 student-athletes, five distinct Woodland Spring sports programs surpassed this benchmark:

  • Varsity Girls Track & Field: 3.661 GPA
  • Varsity Boys Track & Field: 3.529 GPA
  • Varsity Fastpitch Softball: 3.525 GPA
  • Varsity Girls Golf: 3.400 GPA
  • Varsity Baseball: 3.352 GPA

Fastpitch Team

Balancing high school athletics with rigorous academic responsibilities takes exceptional discipline. When WHS teaches its student body about GRIT, these student-athletes serve as primary examples, epitomizing Gratitude, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork in everything they do.

Baseball Team

Having five separate teams earn this accolade highlights a school-wide standard of achievement rather than an isolated effort. This milestone reflects the combined dedication of student-athletes, teachers, parents, and coaching staff working together to build a strong culture of athletic and academic excellence.
