Dear Woodland Families,

Following up on our School Board Workshop in March, where local parents shared their valuable perspectives on better aligning our school and home support structures, we invited our entire parent community to participate in a foundational parent partnership survey. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 463 parents and guardians who took the time to complete this questionnaire. Your honest feedback is crucial as we work together to build a stronger circle of support around every single student in Woodland.

Survey Highlights at a Glance

The survey responses provided an excellent, transparent baseline for how our families experience communication, engagement, and safety across our school buildings. Below is a detailed breakdown of how families prefer to receive critical school updates:

Communication Method PreferencesIn addition to communication preferences, general school climate metrics reflected exceptionally high levels of trust and satisfaction across our district:

  • Comfortable Environment: 89.6% of parents agree or strongly agree that they feel fully comfortable reaching out to teachers or staff when they have questions or concerns.
  • Student Safety: 86.7% of responding families express confidence that their children feel safe and cared for while at school.
  • Staff Relationships: 86.2% of parents report that school personnel work deliberately to establish positive, welcoming relationships with families.
  • Home Learning Support: Over 84% of surveyed families feel they clearly understand how to effectively guide and support their child's learning progress at home.

You Spoke

Parents pointed out that while current communication channels like text alerts are incredibly convenient, structural gaps still present obstacles. For example, multi-school parents noted that managing disjointed updates from different buildings occasionally causes information overload. Many families also highlighted the increasing transition to digital curriculum, explaining that when classroom resources move completely online, it becomes tougher for parents to directly view and access identical materials to help guide schoolwork at home. Finally, while there is immense willingness to volunteer, the onboarding and participation processes can often feel unclear or fragmented.

We Heard

We hear loud and clear that strong parent partnerships require intentional communication and proactive efforts to engage parents. We hear your absolute preference leans toward direct, text-based messages via TalkingPoints. We also recognize the critical need to clarify volunteer opportunities, increase immediate visibility into day-to-day digital curriculum, and streamline intentional messaging to prevent critical updates from getting lost in the shuffle.

Next Steps

Woodland Public Schools is fully dedicated to turning this collective feedback into action. Moving forward, the district is rolling out the following strategic initiatives:

  • A New Annual Practice: While this represented our very first family partnership survey, it marks the start of a recurring annual tradition. The School Board will formally conduct an annual review of these survey updates to monitor district growth, communication effectiveness, and transparency year after year.
  • Building-Specific Accountability: Starting next school year, every individual school building within the district will systematically evaluate its specific campus feedback. Using these localized data sets, each building will implement annual goals tailored specifically to communication and parent alignment.
  • Targeted Improvement Plans: Principals and staff will focus their upcoming action plans on simplifying parent navigation of digital curriculum tools, eliminating barriers in the volunteer application pipeline, and moderating message frequency to maintain a predictable flow of information.

Thanks for sharing your voice and helping us strengthen our partnership with you, the parents. By working together, we ensure every child feels supported, connected, and ready to thrive.
