Woodland Public Schools welcomes Trish Huddleston as the elected representative for the Director District 4 board position. Huddleston will be sworn into the board during the regular board meeting on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
Huddleston decided to run for the school board director position after seeing the struggles presented from remote schooling during the COVID-19 lockdowns. “Education and family are incredibly important to me, and I believe education will help our kids become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Huddleston. “I look forward to ensuring Woodland Public Schools continues its mission of ‘serving and supporting ALL children, ensuring EACH child has FULL access to, is engaged in, and obtains an excellent education that prepares them for responsible citizenship and a future of adaptability and success in life and their chosen endeavors.’”
Huddleston graduated from Camas School District in Camas, Washington, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from DeVry University in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved to Woodland in 2020 with her son, Devon, who currently attends Woodland High School, her daughter, Sierra, who is homeschooled in fifth grade, and her partner, Derek, along with their pets: four sugar gliders, two Dwarf Chinese hamsters, and three cats.
Devon, a freshman at Woodland High School, loves basketball and has played for Hot Shots, the Police Activity League (PALS), the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and has now become a Woodland Beaver. Sierra, a fifth grader who is currently homeschooled, loves playing soccer, crafting, and spending time with her pets, especially her cats. “She would adopt every stray if we let her,” laughed Huddleston.
Woodland’s small-town feel and tight-knit community attracted Huddleston and her family to the area. “Woodland has been so kind and welcoming and has made my family feel safe and at-home,” she said. “We are so grateful to be a part of the Woodland and Cowlitz County communities.
Huddleston’s goals as board director include providing transparent communications with the community to ensure parents and families can stay up-to-date on school operations. Huddleston replaces Tammy Graham in the Director District 4 position. Graham served in the role from February 2020 to November 2021
