Strengthening the Bond: Parent Partnership in Woodland Schools

Woodland School District believes strong parent partnerships are essential to student success. This commitment was the focus of the School Board Workshop on March 12, 2026.

Three parents, Tami Aste, Tammy Graham, and Jennifer Allik, shared their perspectives and helped identify ways to strengthen partnerships between schools and parents. The conversation centered on a shared desire for more meaningful opportunities for families to engage.

Together, they highlighted three key ways schools and families can work in alignment: helping at home, helping at school, and maintaining strong, consistent communication. When we focus on these shared commitments, we create a stronger, more connected circle of support around every student.

Areas to Grow

Helping at Home - One of the primary hurdles parents face is a lack of access to the same instructional materials used in the classroom. As the curriculum becomes increasingly digital, parents can feel disconnected from the tools their children use daily.

Helping at School - While many parents are eager to contribute their time, the process for doing so can often feel fragmented or unclear.

Communication - The parents acknowledged and appreciated that Woodland works hard to be diverse in communication efforts, including TalkingPoints, newsletters, and "Coffee with the Principal" events. However, the high volume of information can sometimes lead to "information overload," causing essential updates to get lost.

Next Steps

Woodland Public Schools knows strong partnerships are not built overnight; they require consistent attention and maintenance. These parents suggested that parent partnership become a recurring annual focus for the School Board. By integrating an annual survey, followed by goal setting, action plans, and progress tracking, the district can ensure that the connection between schools, the board, and families continues to grow stronger every year. The board wholeheartedly agreed for this to become an annual review.

Since a strong relationship between a school district and its families is the cornerstone of student success, Woodland Public Schools wants to extend an invitation to parents to fill out a brief survey that will be sent out this week and next to gather your input on communication, engagement, and overall partnership with our schools. Your feedback will help us better understand what is working well and where we can improve. We welcome your voice, your presence, and your partnership in our schools.
