The district-wide food drive raised nearly 3,000 pounds of canned and dried foodThe district-wide food drive raised nearly 3,000 pounds of canned and dried food

Students and staff at Woodland Public Schools donated 2,955 pounds of canned and dried food to the Woodland Action Center during the district-wide food drive which ended in November.

Woodland Middle School won the competition by collecting 1,120 pounds of food with North Fork Elementary School coming in second place with 1,053 pounds; Columbia Elementary with 271 pounds; and Woodland High School with 61 pounds. In defense of the high school’s smaller showing, the school had just held an outstanding food drive as part of Homecoming Week in late October.

Several members of the district’s administrative team including Safety & Facilities Director Scott Landrigan, Business Manager Stacy Brown, and Assistant Superintendent Asha Riley visited each school to collect and help load the donations. The pick-up driver from Woodland Action Center emphasized the importance for the community to continue to donate to local food banks. “At the beginning of the pandemic, food banks around the area received a lot of support from the state and federal governments,” he said. “However, supplies have been drawn down and there’s a combination of supply-chain shortages and people not thinking there’s still a need, which there very much is.”
