RE: North Fork Elementary Board Report

School Improvement Plan

Our beginning of the year assessments are finished, and teachers have had a month to get to know their students. Teachers are developing reading and math groups to address students’ learning needs. We have had such a large population of new students below grade level, which has exceeded our ability to serve them in the LAP classroom. Teachers have stepped up to teach their below level intensive reading groups. This is another curriculum for them to learn and plan.

We have set an attendance goal this year and enlisted family support. Students can earn a perfect attendance bracelet each month if they have not missed a day.  In our first month, we had 227 out of 516 students earn perfect attendance bracelets. We have been averaging 94% in attendance daily.

One of our goals is to increase parent involvement. We have started a new parent volunteer program called, “The Eagle Squad”. Parents are able to sign up on a designated Google calendar to volunteer in the lunch room, playground, dismissal, library, classrooms, Lunch Buddies, and classrooms. This has helped ease the stress of our levy cut positions and also increased our student safety.

Recognition

Our teachers have such a passion for their work and getting students the resources they need to learn. Amy Patching, 2nd-grade teacher, recently applied for grants from GoGuardian and Welches Fruit Snacks. She just found out that she received both grants and was able to buy over $400 work of books for her students.

  • Our PTSA Walk-A-Thon was a great success! Students earned a colored band for each lap they ran or walked. Snacks were provided by USNR, and we had an abundance of parent volunteers cheering on our students. This fundraiser brought in $11,700 for our building, grade level, and teacher projects.

Upcoming Events

  • Today we had the Mentors for Success come to train our lunch buddies. This program provides materials and resources to equip our mentors in supporting our students.
  • Our Multilingual teacher, Shelley Thomas, has had a heart for serving our Hispanic community. Those families have asked her for an English class. She will be starting a class for our North Fork families starting October 16th at North Fork. Another opportunity that our Multilingual Paraeducator, Allison Stading, will be starting is a Spanish speaking table during lunch. This will give our Dual Language students an opportunity to continue using their spanish as well as our Hispanic students. It has been exciting to see our program develop and grow stronger with Shelley’s experience and expertise.
