RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report
School Improvement Focus:
Over the last three years, Columbia has put many additional resources and a lot of focus in the subject area of literacy. During the 2023-24 school year, Columbia is also putting those efforts into the area of mathematics. For the first time, CES will be using a new math assessment called Acadience Math. This new math assessment allows our teachers a detailed understanding of what areas of support are needed for each student, along with their areas of strength. Additionally, each CES classroom teacher will be doing their own progress monitoring allowing teachers to have a better/clearer understanding of where their students are academically.
Columbia Recognition- Success Story:
As mentioned in previous board reports, Columbia Elementary has spent a ton of time looking for ways to improve our academic achievement. Over the last couple of years, we have "doubled down" on early interventions for kindergarten- 2nd grade students. In the fall of 2022, we had 38% of our students arriving at CES who were identified as "on grade level" in the area of literacy. During the fall of 2023, we have 45% of our students on grade level. When comparing our returning students, (not our current kindergarten students), we have 51% of our students returning to CES on grade level. This is a HUGE testament to our staff at CES. The work they are doing is making a difference. Although we have work to do, Columbia Elementary continues to head in the right direction.
