Student use of mobile phones and other personally owned electronic phones distracts from a productive learning environment. In addition, there have been issues of cyberbullying and other types of inappropriate use of personally owned technology. Schools and school districts who have restricted the use of telecommunications devices during the school day have had positive results.
A survey of school staff found broad support for the implementation of revisions to this policy.
The administration has developed and the board policy committee has reviewed revisions to policy 3245 and a new procedure to support them, 3245P.
