RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report

2021-22 CES Enrollment:

    • Currently, we have 377 students enrolled at Columbia Elementary.
      • Kindergarten: 76
      • 1st Grade: 69
      • 2nd Grade: 74
      • 3rd Grade: 94
      • 4th Grade: 64

Back to School Update:

    • Back to school has been as expected. After the first couple of days, we as a school made a few tweaks and minor changes to allow for a more fluent day. Changes were made to meet the need for social distancing within our cafeteria along with changes to the entrance of our building with hopes of avoiding student crowding.

Academics = 2021-22 Focus:

    • CES has and continues to focus on academic data. We as a school have multiple data meetings that allow staff to reflect on their students, grade level, and school-wide data. During our DDPD week, instructional coach Ashley Kleinschmidt and I lead a PD session with certificated staff to review data, interpret data and create the next steps to improve the data. CES continues to use a variety of data assessments with the main one being our district adopted assessment program Acadience.
    • CES has also adopted IDEL, (the Spanish version of Acadience) for our Spanish-speaking students and will be implementing the program throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

Reading Intervention:

    • All students in grades K-4 will be attending daily reading intervention. This year we have adapted our intervention groups to focus on student needs K-4 rather than by grade level. Due to having split classrooms, we focused our reading groups on specific learning needs which allow for some interventions to be cross grade levels. The goal is to focus on providing the additional support or enrichment needed to create improvement in our school-wide data.
    • This year we are also providing Spanish LAP groups to meet the needs of our native Spanish-speaking students. This is the first time that CES has provided Spanish LAP groups since the dual language program started at Columbia.
