Re: October Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Mondays: This year, we are using many of our Mondays for professional learning tied to topics that were selected by the staff.  Staff members were encouraged to pick areas that they wished to grow in or learn more about.  We divided the staff into teams of 4-7 and they will spend roughly 5 or 6 Mondays working together on that topic.  Topics include increasing student engagement and learning with our new 1:1 Chromebooks, mental health, strengthening our questioning strategies, providing additional academic support for students and content-specific work.  When we are not meeting in these professional learning teams, we are working on our school improvement teams.  This month we will spend all three of our Mondays in these groups, and one Monday will be for CLC (formerly advisory) work.

Other information:  Homecoming was another successful week at the high school.  A special thanks to Mr. Uhlenkott, Mrs. Conditt and Mr. Woodward for all of their organizational work in making this a fun and safe event for our staff and students.  We were also able to live stream our Homecoming assembly on YouTube and have the video on our Woodland High School YouTube page. At the time of this writing, we’ve had 323 views of the assembly already. Finally, I am pleased to inform you that we are having our 2nd annual Career Fair at WHS, which is being organized by Asha and her team.  The event occurred on Thursday, October 24th.  This memo is being written prior to the event, but I’m sure it went quite well because of the organizational work of Asha, Kimberly Miller, and Sarah Hadaller.   We will be spending quite a bit of time on October 31st and November 1st (non-student days) to work on our school improvement plan.  I look forward to sharing our work and plan with you and the school board in November.

All in all, it was a good productive month at Woodland High School.
