WSD Athletics Board Report

 

December 16, 2013

HS Football

  1. Varsity season ended with loss to Mt. Baker in 1st round state playoffs (eventual state runner-up)

        i.      Hunter Huddleston, Eli Whitmire named Co-offensive MVPs of league.  Vince Nigro, Trevor Huddleston, Kyle Hendrix,  Zach Wardle, Dillon Beckwith,  Ryan Wheeler, Brian Preston, Troy Flanagan all made 1st Team.

HS Volleyball

  1. After 2nd place in district finish, team lost out in the trophy round of the state tournament in Yakima.

       i.      Nic Nesbitt was named co-mvp of the league. Jenna Booker and Madi Raymond made 1st team.

HS Girls’ Soccer

  1. After 3rd place in district finish, team lost to eventual state runner up Seattle Christian in state playoffs.

       i.      Jessica Flanagan, Kaitlynn Troyer, Amber Malik, Gracey Trice all made 1st team.

HS Cross Country

  1. Matt Young finished 37th at state… Michael Mentler PR’d (17:53) and finished 79th.

      i.      Matt Young was named 1st team all-league.

HS Boys’ Golf

  1. Ryan Sturdivan was named league MVP, Tanner Huddleston, Hayden Huddleston named to 1st team.

HS Girls’ Basketball

  1. 21 girls turning out, and we will have a JV and Varsity.  Both teams are 2-0 so far.

HS Boys’ Basketball

  1. 29 boys turned out. Team was cut down to a JV and Varsity (23 total).

       i.      JV and Varsity are both 2-0 so far.

HS Wrestling

  1. 29 boys turning out, and 1 girl. Our girl will be practicing (co-op) with La Center (they have a girls’ team) but competing as a Woodland Beaver.

      i.      The varsity competed in the Three Rivers Classic this past weekend.  Nathan Patterson won his weight class. Zac         Seevers (2nd), Josh Pratt (3rd) and Jeff Jackson (4th) all placed top 4.

HS Cheer

  1. There are 8 members on this year’s winter sports squad.

Swimming

  1. We have one swimmer, and he will be in a co-op with Camas, but will compete as a Woodland Beaver.

MS Winter 1 Sports

  1. 8th grade girls basketball record is 4-3 with one game to go.
  2. 7th grade girls’ basketball record is 7-0 with one game to go.
  3. C team record is 3-5.
  4. MS Wrestling has a turnout over 50, and the team is doing very well.
  5. MS Boys’ basketball begins after Christmas.

Other

  1. Remember that WHS Sports can now be followed on Facebook and Twitter and we have a new website: tricoathletics.com
  2. It looks like we will be heading back to 2A next year – even though our enrollment numbers are down from last count. We will be one of the smallest 2A schools in the state if we go back up.
