RE:          Summary of Teaching and Learning

September has been a busy month at Woodland Middle School.

WMS has spent Monday professional development time on Skyward training and looking at the Student Information Progress System in preparation for our October Collaborative Academic Support Team meeting. Additionally, staff and students have been preparing for fall student-led conferences.

All mathematics teachers attended the Common Core State Standards training for mathematics in September.  There was a lot of positive comments about the presenter, Jacob Bruno.  Staff felt like it was a training they went to and could then implement ideas right away.

Woodland Middle School students had their first dance in September (neon was the theme), as well as their first fire drill.

On the College Career and Technical Education side of things, Woodland School District hosted the first Cowlitz/Clark County Director's meeting in September.  Mary Ellen Vetter and Kim Miller did a fabulous job with the flowers and food.  Mary Ellen Vetter received the mentor teacher of the year from her professional association group, and she is getting ready for a strong showing at nationals in October.  Mr. Vetter received 20 vertical shaft brand new Honda Engines from Honda.  This a great opportunity for an entire class to work on the same engines.  The cost was $300.00 (only shipping), the engines were free!
