PROGRAM OVERVIEWWoodland Public Schools proudly introduced its Dual Language Program in the 2018-19 school year, offering two class sections for Kindergarten students. A total of 44 students enrolled - both native English and Spanish speakers. The Dual Language Immersion Program provides native English and Spanish speaking students the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural by the time they enter middle school. Our Dual Language Immersion Program is designed to serve speakers of both languages within the same classroom. Students are intentionally mixed in the same educational environment to provide communication and academic language development in an interactive setting. Half of each day’s class instruction will be taught entirely in Spanish with the other half of the day taught entirely in English. Core subjects such as reading, writing, social studies, and science are taught in both English and Spanish. Mathematics instruction is taught only in English. Children have a natural language-learning capacity and using a second language is a natural way to increase language skills. Woodland Public Schools offers the Dual Language Immersion Program from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. To benefit from participating, families should enroll their student for several years. |
RESUMEN DEL PROGRAMA
Las Escuelas Públicas de Woodland presentaron con orgullo su Programa de Lenguaje Dual en el año escolar 2018-19, que ofrece dos secciones de clase para estudiantes de Kindergarten. Un total de 44 estudiantes inscritos, ambos hablantes nativos de inglés y español. El Programa de Inmersión en Dos Idiomas ofrece a los estudiantes nativos del idioma ingles y español la oportunidad de convertirse en bilingües, bilaterales y biculturales cuando ingresan a la escuela intermedia. Nuestro Programa de Inmersión en Dos Idiomas está diseñado para atender a los hablantes de ambos idiomas dentro del mismo salón de clases. Los estudiantes se mezclan intencionalmente en el mismo entorno educativo para proporcionar comunicación y el desarrollo del lenguaje académico en un entorno interactivo. La mitad de las clases diarias se impartirán íntegramente en español, mientras que la otra mitad del día se impartirá íntegramente en inglés. Las materias básicas como lectura, escritura, estudios sociales y ciencias se enseñan en inglés y español. La instrucción de matemáticas se enseña solo en inglés. Los niños tienen una capacidad natural de aprendizaje los idiomas y el uso de un segundo idioma es una forma natural de aprender ese idioma. Las Escuelas Públicas Woodland ofrecen el Programa de Inmersión en Dos Idiomas desde Jardín de Niños hasta Quinto Grado. Para beneficiarse verdaderamente de participar, las familias deben inscribir a sus estudiantes por varios años. |
