World Café: Shaping Our Future Through Conversations That Matter – 1/18/2018

In partnership and collaboration with Woodland PTSA, Woodland Primary School Principal, Ingrid Colvard and Woodland Intermediate School Principal, Steven Carney facilitated a fun evening of dialogue and conversations around important topics to inform and shape the K-4 educational experience in Woodland Public Schools. The community dialogue took place using the "World Cafe" format. The "World Cafe" is a provocative metaphor enabling us to see new ways to make a difference in our work together. As we moved from one conversation to another, new learning and action choices began to emerge. The conversations became one big dynamic Café, each a table in a larger network of living conversations which is the core process for sharing our collective knowledge and shaping our future. We used the power of conversation towards our mutual benefit.

K-4 Highly Capable Testing

At the end of January and early February, all Kindergarten through 4th grade students will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screening Form. This brief assessment will assist in identifying students who have the potential to benefit from an academic program for gifted and talented learners. This is the only year all intermediate students will be screened without a referral. In following school years, all kindergarten and third grade students will be screened. At that time students in other grade levels may be referred by anyone who has reason to believe a child may be appropriately served through the Highly Capable Program. Students who meet screening criteria this school year will all participate in Highly Capable Program services with guardian consent. In future years, all students through grade three meeting screening criteria will receive services, while fourth grade students will complete the more extensive CogAT to determine continued participation in the program.
