Renewal of Sodexo Contract To Provide School Food Service

RE: Sodexo Contract Renewal

The 16-17 school year was our 5th and final year under the first 5-year contract with Sodexo.  We were required to issue an RFP (Request for Proposal) for the district food service program.  We issued the RFP in March and received only one bid (Sodexo).  Our current Sodexo contract covers Sodexo staffing for full management of the program, with the exception of managing the district employees.  Sodexo manages the day to day operations of the program, while the district provides management of the employees including any personnel issues and annual evaluations.  Per RCW, food service management contracts are based on a per meal fee and also include a guarantee.  The 16-17 price per meal is $1.9729 and the guarantee is ($111,569).  The guarantee is based on district salaries of $455,000.

The contract for 17-18 also covers full management of the program.  The 17-18 price per meal is $2.027 and the guarantee is ($127,081).  The price per meal is an increase of approximately $.05 per meal, or $2.7%.  This is reasonable based on inflation and also an increase to the district labor costs to $465,000 and an addition of non-food costs of $8,100 to cover health permits, supplies, and software licensing for the point of sale systems used in the cafeterias.

I recommend approval of the Sodexo contract for the 17-18 school year.
