RE: Monthly Report Woodland Primary School (Grades PreK-1)
Positive Partnerships: Connecting with our community partners and students throughout Woodland Public Schools bring powerful experiences for all involved. WPS has benefitted from a collaboration between some WMS and WPS teachers, bringing students together to read and engage in mentoring opportunities. Additionally, a close relationship is forming with Washington State University-Vancouver. WPS staff are supporting the development of preservice teachers and administrators, while WSUV faculty are reinforcing community partnership initiatives with resources, expertise and facilitating important connections. We are also working diligently to foster productive interactions with several community agencies, which is beginning to make a difference in how effectively Woodland families and students are served.
Read Across America: March 2nd everyone at WPS celebrated reading and the birth of Dr. Seuss! In keeping with a focus on creating and fostering joyful learning experiences, the entire school joined together to read stories and enjoy literature. A rotating group of guest readers kept it exciting in classrooms, along with fun activities and healthy snacks that reflected the theme. Students spent the day in pajamas curled up with books and spending time with adults they don’t usually have interactions with. It was a truly magical and memorable day.
Mid-Year Coaching Conversations: These past weeks have been spent in meaningful conversation with teachers regarding instructional practices, progress assessment of student achievement goals, and plans for future professional learning. School improvement only happens when each educator is nurtured and supported to grow. This happens most effectively when a principal makes time to meet with every staff member both formally and informally on a regular basis. WPS teachers are engaged in ongoing dialogue about their professional practice, areas of struggle and success, and dreams for their future. In the same way, this is the time of year when I carefully assess my current support of every individual, making adjustments as necessary to help meet yearly goals. This growth process for everyone at WPS is exciting and makes a significant impact on student achievement.
