As the end of the school year approaches we look at making plans for 2017-2018 school year. Part of that process is sending out a survey to employees asking them if they are intending to retire or resign this year or looking to take a leave of absence next year. These surveys will help in our upcoming recruitment fairs and job postings as well as allow me to talk to staff about the process and paperwork needed to formally communicate their intent with the district.

Recently all administrators attended training on investigations which helped educate us on how to address issues that come up as well as when concerns need to be communicated to other administrators. I created a form to share with our administrators that will help them in the steps and the forms needed in investigations as well as quick references to the applicable policies and procedures.

Lastly, I will be attending the regional Washington School Personnel Association February 27 to March 1, in Vancouver at the Heathman Lodge. I was fortunate enough to win a $300.00 registration fee so will be attending at no cost. This conference focuses on topics that are relevant to Human Resource personnel in school districts. Some of the classes I will attend are Certification-Policy and Assignment updates, Fair Labor Standards Act, and Bargaining Obligation-Avoiding Unfair Labor Practices. I look forward to learning things that will benefit our district.
