College Prep Class

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed for students interested in continuing on into college and other post secondary institutions. The course is taught by WHS counselors who will guide students through the college application, financial aid, and scholarship process. 

Fee: Students are expected to pay for application fees to at least two post secondary institutions to which they apply (unless the student qualifies for fee waivers).

**If you have missed the due date for an assignment, please communicate with the instructor to create a plan for completion.

 

Transript Evaluation Assignment:  (5 Points):  Due September 2, 2016

 

"Vision" Writing Sample: (5 Points):  Due September 6, 2016

 

"Get to Know You" Writing Sample: (5 Points):  Due September 8, 2016

 

Top 5 Colleges Research Assignment: (5 Points):  Due September 8, 2016

 

Culminating (Senior) Project Foundation Activity:  (5 Points):  Due September 13, 2016

 

FAFSA ID Creation:  (5 Points):  Due Sptember 19, 2016

 

SAT Site Exploration and Registration:  (5 Points):  Due Spetember 21, 2016

 

College Selection Criteria Worksheet: (5 Points):  Due September 26, 2016

 

Senior Presestion (50 Points):  Due December 5, 2016

 

Local Scholarship Application Essay (25 Points):  Due December 14, 2016 by 3:30 pm.

 Prompt:  "Describe a situation in your life that you consider to have been a life-changing experience. Include any negative or positive variables that were associated with this event."

Students will complete the essay within the WHS Local Scholarship Application portal on the WHS website.  

 

Local Scholarship Applications (50 Points):  Due January 24, 2017

Students will complete the application for at least 3 scholarships on the WHS Local Scholarship Application page.  ***Please note that students will not click the submit button on the application until March.  This is because more scholarships might be added to the website during the 2nd semester.  Teacher will grade the assignment by viewing student application status on the website.  In order to receive full credit, 3 applications must be fully complete (minus the submission of the final transcript and attendance records which will be submitted in the Spring)

 

Senior Info. Sheet Prep and List of Possible Reccomenders (5 Points):  Due December 16, 2016

 

FAFSA Application Completion:  (100 Points):  Due January 24, 2017

Student must show proof of submission to FAFSA
