Re: CTE Report

Here’s what happening in our CTE program:

WHS takes on Bullying: Mrs. Ruff’s leadership class will be introducing their Anti-Bullying Campaign in a school wide assembly next week. Adam Shaw will be running for the SW Region Vice President position at the FBLA state conference.

Need Any Plants? Mrs. Vetter’s Horticulture Class is preparing for the plant sale. They have planted 200 hanging baskets, 600 geraniums, 500 various other plants and 960 tomatoes and peppers. Now, all they need is some sunshine!

Skills USA (Mrs. Miller) preparing for State: We will be sending 7 students (Megan Laddusaw, Carinda Washburn, Selena Meddock, Jamelah Stephans, Daphne Mendoza, Karin Taylor and Lidia Valenzuela) to the Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Conference March 31-April 2 in Tacoma.

HOSA (Ms. Cullison) Preparing for State: Their state competition is March 18-19, and we have 7 members registered to compete.

Shop Classes Are All About Hands-on Learning: The advanced auto students completed their removal/installation of a vehicle motor. They also changed u-joints, serviced the rear differential, transmission and transfer case in addition to replacing the transmission pump. The marine class has been doing boat tune-ups and replaced a steering cable on a bass boat.

Wayne Miller will be attending a Skills USA new advisor training, so that we can start another Skills USA chapter in our shop classes.

Lego Robotics continues to impress: Tim Brown’s middle school Lego Robotics team came home from state with a 1st place trophy for teamwork. The number of girls in our middle school CTE STEM courses has increased significantly this year – from less than 10% to over 30% overall.

Mr. Brown is offering a new class called Alice (named after the woman that wrote the language) – which is an animation class that was written specifically to encourage girls to learn how to program. Tim attended a week long class at Carnegie Mellon University to learn the language and we are excited to offer this course 4th quarter.
