New changes to Woodland's Elementary Schools

Previous Next

Beginning January 4, 2016, Dr. Juliann McCarthy will be Interim Principal of Woodland Primary School and Steven Carney will be Principal of Woodland Intermediate School

Dear Woodland K-4 Parents,

I’d like to inform you of an upcoming change in our administrative leadership at the PreK-4 grade levels. As of January 4, 2016, Steven Carney, current Principal of both Woodland Primary School and Woodland Intermediate School, will become Principal of the Intermediate School with Dr. Juliann McCarthy coming on as Interim Principal of Woodland Primary School through the end of the 2015-16 school year. Malinda Huddleston and Lynnell Tsugawa-Murray will both remain as Associate Administrators and teaching coaches for their respective schools.

This change is being made to provide additional capacity to our ever-growing PreK-4 population and to ensure that parents, students and staff at both schools will receive support they need for success. Our goal is that our unified PreK-4 program will remain intact as our entire elementary administrative team remains dedicated to the vision set in place at the beginning of the school year. Collaboration will remain key with both school teams working closely together to plan for the best educational approaches for our 800 elementary students.

For those of you who do not already know her, I am pleased to introduce Dr. McCarthy who initially started working for Woodland Public Schools in the 2014-15 school year as a school psychologist. Before moving to Woodland, she worked as an Administrator of an alternative High School in Arizona as well as the Director of Special Education for her school district. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Carroll College, a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Montana, and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from Northern Arizona University.

Please join me in welcoming Juliann to our administrative team, and do not hesitate to contact your building administrators or myself if you have any questions regarding this transition.

Sincerely,

 Superintendent Michael Green
