SCHOOL
REPORTS

 

The Board discussed the school reports with Administrators. They discussed the online classes at WHS that the Tech Department helped to develop. Aaron Blackwelder has a college-prep English class running at this time. These classes are growing in popularity with students. Students need to have access from home which can be a dial-up connection at a minimum.

REPRESENTATIVE
REPORT

 

Chelsey Rohm reported that student led conference information meetings were last week and this Tuesday and Thursday. The conferences begin on March 23. Mr. Woodland will be this Thursday at 7pm in the WHS Auditorium. DECA has put a lot of work into this fundraiser. "An Evening of Swing" dinner and dance will be at the Oak Tree this Saturday at 7pm with the WHS Jazz band performing. Prom is on April 18 at the Oregon Convention Center.

SUPERINTENDENT
REPORT

 

Michael Green reported that bidding closed last Friday for agriculture use of the land on the District's Dike Road property. The Port of Woodland has been acting as the lease agency on this. Their help is much appreciated. The land will be used to grow hay or grass. The House Ways and Means Committee passed bill 2261 which modified language of how schools are funded.

Michael asked Craig Downs to give the Board an update about the CTE Symposium from last week. Craig said that 31 people attended the symposium. Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council (SWWDC) gave a presentation about workforce trends. Future trends include 70% of new jobs requiring post-secondary or vocational training and more technology training. Target industries include health care, high technology, manufacturing, construction trades, transportation and logistics and alternative energy and green services. Basic skills needed are computer and technical, English language, math and science, communication, interpersonal, personal responsibility, decision-making, flexibility and motivation. The Board discussed the information with Craig.

CORRESPONDENCE

 

The Board reviewed a copy of a thank you letter sent to Woodland Wheelchair Service, Inc. They are donating $250 per month for WCC snacks. The Board said that they will also send a thank-you letter to Woodland Wheelchair Service.

Budget Advisory Team Update

Michael Green discussed the work of the Budget Advisory Team (BAT) to date. Tina Cayton who is on the Team said that everyone on the Team participates. Bill Woodard, who is also on the Team, said that there is a lot of information at the meetings. The Team will continue working until the beginning of April. The Board will have a work session and a public input presentation. Finally, the Board will have a special meeting to take action on the information in May. Michael will work on setting the meeting schedules. He said that he has gotten a lot of information out on his new blog on the District website.

Michael said that the budget extension is not on this agenda because the deadline for getting the legal posting to the newspapers was missed. The Board discussed the consent agenda.

Board President, Jim Bays, recessed the meeting into executive session at 7:43pm to discuss the Superintendent's evaluation.
