I have attached the 2014-15 Budget vs. Actual and Comparison to 2013-14 and Fund Budget Status reports for the month of March. Last month I gave you a report noting that fund balance is projected to increase by $82,000 for the year. This process is very time consuming and from month to month there may or may not be large changes. I will plan to complete the projected revenues, expenditures and fund balance every two months (April, June and August), unless there are items that come up that I know will affect the ending fund balance.
Revenues in March were almost exactly as expected. Payroll was about $46,000 less than expected (last month was $56,000 less than expected). This is reasonable based upon the budgeted positions vs. actual positions, as well as the additional capacity added through budgeted benefits. This number has been getting closer to expected each month as we are paying for double teaching and administrative positions (staff on administrative leave and substitutes). Accounts payable was about $9,000 less than expected. I reviewed all expenditures and the amounts paid do not look unusual. KWRL transfers were about $218,000 more than budgeted, as about half of the transfer was from the 13-14 school year. This was approved through resolution last month.
The enrollment spreadsheets are attached, with summaries by headcount for September through April and a comparison of budgeted FTE to actual average FTE. Enrollment has dropped off for the last couple of months and continues to decrease this month (by 15 heads and 13.2 FTE). The average FTE is still almost 29 students above budget. I ran an enrollment/withdrawal report from 4/2 through 4/22 and found that so far this month we have gained back a large percentage of the 15 that were lost in March. I will continue to keep you apprised each month and will let you know how this affects the district projections in May with financial data from April.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
