Policy Discussion: Policy 1400, 1410, 1420, & 1430
The board will review and discuss current policies and procedure:
The focus of the discussion will be to review the Board's processes, protocols, and conventions related to school board meetings.
On January 12 a question was asked by a meeting attendee regarding Robert's Rules of Order. In so far as the board conducts its meetings using a very loose form of Robert's Rules it may be worth considering a change to the less formal "Democratic Rules of Order" (Fred and Peg Francis) as the basis for conducting meetings. information has been sent to board members separately regarding these rules
It may also be appropriate, in the interest of maintaining decorum for the board to consider modifying the manner in which you receive public comment on both agenda and non-agenda items.
The board may wish to consider developing an "All-in-one" policy that incorporates all four policies under one Policy titled "Meetings of the Board of Directors" I have crafted a combined policy and Janice has reviewed it. Attached is a Discussion Draft of 1400R which would replace 1400, 1400P, 1410, 1420, and 1430.
At the meeting on January 12 a community member indicated that the rules for speaking at board meetings were not clear to interested community members. I believe his suggestion was an excellent one. I have taken the liberty to craft a statement that could be posted on the board page. It is also attached.
