Recommendation to Increase Substitute Teacher Pay

In recent months, the school district has experienced an ongoing shortage of certificated substitute teachers.   In response, we have been recruiting and hiring additional subs.  The problem persists.

I recently asked Tegan to survey Clark and Cowlitz School Districts to determine if the rate of pay might be an issue.   In reviewing the data it appears our rates may be low, particularly in comparison to neighboring districts.

The administrative recommendation is to increase the full-day substitute pay to $120 and the half-day substitute pay to $70 beginning April 11, 2013

Based on certificated substitute usage in the last 12 months, it is estimated that this change would cost approximately $10,000 to implement.
