Parent Input Form for Elementary Placement

Each spring one of the responsibilities of our staff is the placement of students into classrooms for the upcoming school year.  Many factors are considered in determining classroom placement.  These factors include academic and special needs, behavioral and social concerns, and input from parents and teachers.  For parents who wish to provide input into classroom placement, a parent input form is available in the WIS office.  They can be obtained between the dates of May 3rd and May 13th.  Parent input forms are due to the WIS office by 4:00 PM on May 13th

Woodland Intermediate School Dress Code

Dear Parents:

As we progress further into spring our weather continues to grow more pleasant with each passing day.  As the weather changes, so does the clothing that our students choose to wear to school.  A dress code exists to insure student safety, promote a positive learning environment, and to limit disruptions to the educational process.  Any type of clothing that is deemed disruptive to the educational process, immodest, or which constitutes a threat to the health or safety of student(s) would be deemed inappropriate.

In order to maintain high standards, the following additional guidelines are followed at WIS:

Donate To Haiti Online Or Through The WIS Penny Drive

Donate to Haiti Online!

Families of WIS,

We know many of you have already donated to the Haitian relief efforts through your church or favorite charity.  If you haven't yet donated or are interested in helping our school reach out to those affected by this tragedy you can make a tax deductible donation to Mercy Corps through our secure fundraising page.  Over the last five years, Mercy Corps has allocated more than 89% of their resources directly to programs.  America's premier charity evaluator gives Mercy Corps four stars in organizational efficiency.  Mercy Corps is based out of Portland and has local people on the ground right now helping those who are suffering.

School Improvement Survey-Family Perspectives

Parents-We would like to hear from you.  We've created an on-line survey that asks for your views about our schools so we can improve and provide the best possible education for your child.  Please take 5 minutes and go to the following link:  http://www.woodlandschools.org/index.php?q=node/8608

to complete.  If you would prefer to complete the paper/pencil version please call 225-1060 to request the survey and a return envelope.  This information is critical to our planning as certain characteristics of a school do affect student learning and you play a pivotal role in this process.  The survey deadline is Jan. 24th.  We truly appreciate you taking the time to do this!!!!

Study Island

All Woodland Intermediate School students now have access to a great resource for helping to prepare for the MSP (Measurement of Student Progress) , and enhance what is being taught in the classroom.  The MSP is the standardized test that has replaced the WASL for the 2009/2010 school year.  We are excited to announce our affiliation with a web based program called Study Island (http://www.studyisland.com/), which is accessible to students from both school and home.  The math activities on Study Island are aligned with the lessons being taught in our math classes at Woodland Intermediate School as well as the Washington State Math Standards.  If you have internet access, your child can access Study Island as a supplemental activity to assist in preparing them for the math MSP, and enhance what is being taught in the classroom.  Students have been given user names and passwords by their teachers.  These user names and passwords will allow your child to log in from home.  We are excited about the potential benefits that this program can bring to our students, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity by using Study Island on a regular basis. Study Island offers wonderful support for both parents and students.  Please feel free to contact Study Island at 800-419-3191 or support@studyisland.com if you have any questions.

WIS Hi-C Referral Window

Woodland School District is now taking referrals for the Highly Capable Program. The program is designed to challenge gifted and talented students at Woodland Intermediate and Middle School. This is a 3 month process, during which anyone (parents, teachers, media specialists, friends, family, acquaintances, members of the community, cohorts, etc.) may refer a student for testing.  Please either visit our website at: http://www.woodlandschools.org/index.php?q=node/1572 or contact the Special Services Department 225-1060 for a Hi C Referral Packet.

WIS New Daily Schedule

September 11, 2009

Dear Parents and Students:

As the doors opened on the first day of school students filled the halls with smiles and cheers. Throughout the first two weeks students have continued to radiate enthusiasm, confidence, and optimism. The positive attitudes and energy of our students is a direct reflection of the strength and talent of our staff, parents, and community.

Last year our staff spent a great deal of time reflecting upon how we serve students at Woodland Intermediate School, time management throughout the day, and our teaching and learning practices. As a result of our reflection, we have created and implemented a daily schedule which provides an increased emphasis on all core (reading, math and writing) curricular areas.
